Meeting of Chancellor and Vice-Chancellors of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences with Vice-Ambassador of the Netherlands and Professors of RIKILT Institute, University of Wageningen

A memorandum of understanding between the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and the University of Wageningen on Food Health was signed on Saturday, August 18, 2018. At this meeting, Dr. Mohammad Aghajani, Chancellor of the university gave a welcome speech to Mrs. Yvette Soraya Daoud, acting ambassador and Dr. Robertus van Gorcom, director of Rikilt institute and accompanied delegation. As part of this meeting, he presented his hope to develop academic relations with the University of Wageningen, specifically to launch and continue academic training courses in various fields including toxin analysis, food fraud and jointresearch projects.

Then, Dr. Amir Mohsen Ziaei, the Vice-Chancellor of Educational Affairs explained the university structure, academic potentials and different districts of Tehran covered by the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. This year, 14,000 students (60% frmale students) take academic courses in 252 fields.


Dr. Afshin Zarghi, the Vice-Chancellor of Research and Technology, presented the 70 research centers of the university, of which 7 collaborate with the World Health Organization (WHO). Currently 30 academic journals are published in English at the university, which can accelerate the development of academic relations with the Netherlands.


 

Thereafter, Dr. Mehrad Faizi, the Vice-Chancellor of International Relations briefly presented all the activities and projects carried out to better expand international relations. In this regard, he mentioned the creation of the Iran-France scientific cooperation office, the visit of Iranian emergency doctors to France for an observation workshop and Iran-France research workshops. In the international framework, different memoranda of understanding have been signed with France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Hungary, Russia and Oman.

Mrs. Yvette Soraya Daoud, acting ambassador of the Netherlands, asked about the language of education at the university of Shahid Beheshti. It is explained that in medicine, students must train in Persian for direct collaboration with patients, but in other majors English is the priority for education.

Dr. Kobarfard, director of the research laboratory, presented all the activities on food health during the last 5 years with the best universities of the world and wished the continuation and solidification of these activities with the Rikilt institute.
Dr. Robertus van Gorcom, professor at the University of Wageningen introduced the structure of this university which is ranked first among European universities for 13 years by the Shanghai accreditation organization.

At the end of this meeting, Dr Aghajani thanked the Dutch guests and once again pointed out the development of academic and medical relations and sincerely asked for the support and special attention of the Netherlands Embassy.
